Lawmaker tasks youths on western, Islamic education



The Speaker, Zamfara state House of Assembly, Alhaji Sanusi Rikiji, has advised youths to seek for both western and Islamic education to enable them contribute their quota towards the development of the country.
Rikiji gave the advice on Monday in Gusau at the presentation of certificates to the winners of Qur’anic recitation who participated in a two-week Qur’anic Science course organised by the Centre for Huruf Science and Islamic Studies, Gusau.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the two-week programme was sponsored by Rikiji Foundation, an NGO privately owned by the Speaker of the state assembly, Alhaji Sanusi Rikiji.
The speaker, who was represented at the occasion by an official of the NGO, Alhaji Hassan Rikiji said the advice was also necessary in order to improve their religious knowledge and enhance their socio-economic status in the society.
He said the performance of the students in the competition was a clear indication that “Our youths have interest and zeal to participate in education programmes.
Earlier in his remarks, the Director of the Centre, Malam Kabiru Alhikam said the course was organised to enhance the knowledge of youths especially in Qur’anic science and research.
He said 55 out of the 100 Qur’anic reciters who participated in the two weeks programme, were presented with awards.
Alhikam said that 100 students made up of 50 males and 50 females, selected from 50 Islamic schools in Gusau Local Government Area, participated in the two weeks course.
”Of the number, 55 students comprising 40 males, 15 females won different categories of awards.
“We have so far conducted this training in Gusau and Tsafe local governments; we are making arrangements to move to other local governments because our plan is to cover the 14 LGAs of the state,” he said.
He commended Rikiji Foundation for sponsoring the programme and urged other well-meaning individuals to emulate him to improve teaching and learning of the Holy Qur’an as well as the Islamic religion in general. (NAN)
