IGP Reassures Anambra of peaceful poll despite heavy police presence

Ahead of the Anambra State gubernatorial election bid to hold coming Saturday, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Idris K. Ibrahim alongside his three Deputy Inspector General of Police and other senior police officers yesterday left the their Abuja office and stormed Anambra State in preparation for the election even as the IGP while addressing his men in the State Police Command, talked tough on his men's ethics cum professionalism.
The IGP who arrived the State Police Command with his entourage at about 13.55hours, inspected guard of honour mounted for him and after which, had a his lunch inside the office of the State Commissioner of Police and later joined the National Chairman of the  Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Mr. Mahmood Yakubu in a stakeholders meeting held at Woman Development Center(WDC) at Agu Awka.
While in WDC, IGP Idris Ibrahim, assured Ndi-Anambra that him and his men are ever ready for the conduct of the election, noted that the total of Twenty-one (21, 000) policemen with Three Hundred and thirty (330) police Hilux has since arrived the state waiting for the conduct of the ever publicized governorship election.
Assuring the electorates of their security during and after the election, the nation's first policeman cautioned parents not to allow their children to be engaged in thuggery by politicians or any other thing that would make them regrate the conduct of this year's governorship election in Anambra State.
Retiring back to the State Police Command, IGP Idris Ibrahim who was officially introduced to his men by the Force Headquarters Deputy Public Relations Officer, SP....   stated without contradiction that the state's forthcoming gubernatorial election is not only important to the nation but stands as a testing ground for the presidential election coming up next year. 
On the role(s) of every policeman assigned to supervise the all important Anambra gubernatorial election, the Inspector General of Police said; "I am here in person with three (3) Deputy Inspector General of Police and the DIG Operations, Mr. Habila is here also in person to head the supervision of our men. It is my expectation that everyone of you know your role in the election and I want to inform you that I have just finished addressing the stakeholders in Anambra State and some of them talked rough on policemen taking gratification from politicians even in the polling boots during other elections.
"Let me sound it as a warning, we are not going to take it light with any policeman who would allow himself to be used in denting the image of the Nigerian police. We did it in Rivers State and I think fifteen (15) policemen were dismissed because of bribe. Don't take money from any politician, any politician seen sharing money within the polling boots should be arrested no matter how highly placed.
"Nigerians, the world at large are watching us, we must prove to them that we have integrity.There is going to be Mobile Policemen, Anti- Terrorism and Special Protecting Policemen who will bear arms but must be in a distance from polling boots and their duty is to protect both our men and the electorates at each polling boots against anybody who would like to behave funny", IGP emphasised.
Revealing other strategies mapped out to make the election free, fair and credible according the nation's police boss, he further disclosed that he has ordered for the withdrawal of policemen attached to the all the candidates contesting for the state's most prestigious seat, including that of the sitting governor.
He went further and assured that since the police authorities is set to punish any erring officer who may indulge himself against the laid down rules of the election; "there are going to be an award for those who would discharged their legitimate duties credibly and no policeman is allowed to wear anything that is not full police uniform with his name tag", he concluded.     
Other notable senior police officers in IGP's entourage includes: DIG Ntom Chukwu, DIG Admun, AIGs, CP Imo state, Chris Ezike, CP Rivers, CP Kogi, CP Kano and Compol even as the IGP made it known that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Gurba Umar has been redeployed outside state but will resume immediately the  election is over. IGP further revealed that all Divisional Police Officers, DPOs have been swerved ahead of the Saturday's governorship election.   
However,  Gov. Willie Obiano was mad at the Compere of the Election Stakeholders Forum with INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, for introducing as the candidate of APGA with recognizing him as the governor.
Willie Obiano had walked in  to the event and missed out on the earlier introduction of Candidates. He was vehemently insistent that he must be introduced as governor despite explanations from the Compere that this is an INEC event and every candidate is equal. "My friend, will you introduce me well, I am the governor of this State" said Willie.
The governor who remained standing barking his anger later got his wish and only sat down when he was introduced as "His Excellency".
