The former governor, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has alleged that Anambra State former governor, Mr Peter Obi begged him to contest for the 2017 gubernatorial poll against Willie Obiano but he turned down the offer.

Soludo also accused Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of a vengeance mission saying that Obi was using its candidate, Oseloka Obaze to witch hunt Obiano, while the All Progressive Congress (APC) was hoping to use thugs and security to intimidate and win the election.

The ex-CBN governor, who disclosed this at the occasion of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) gubernatorial flag-off for Obiano re-election campaign, hinted that Obi and other stakeholders of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) pleaded with him to declare for the November 18 governorship election.

According to the former CBN governor who was the PDP Anambra 2010 governorship candidate, his refusal to throw his hat to the ring was because he earlier endorsed the incumbent governor since “if it did not bend why mending it.”

He also listed other reasons he chose to support Obiano re-election to include the fact that major stakeholders in Anambra like Alex Ekwueme, associations and organisations have equally ticked the governor for a second term.

The economist further alleged that no other candidates among the 37 contestants for the number one sit in Anambra was qualified and credible like Governor Obiano, who he also said would certainly handover power to someone from Anambra south at the expiration of his second term if wins.

The State governor and candidate of APGA for the forthcoming election, Chief Willie Obiano, while receiving APGA flag for the election affirmed that he and his team had delivered excellence to the people of Anambra State in the past three and a half years.

Obiano in an address entitled “Towards the Consolidation of Excellence” maintained that any objective and comprehensive assessment of his administration in the past three and a half years would confirm that we had delivered on all our promises. What is left now for my Team and I is to consolidate this excellent narrative and lend deeper roots to our dreams of a better Anambra.”

Among the dignitaries present at the occasion were first female governor in Nigeria, Dame Virgy Etiaba, former National Chairman of APGA and DG Obiano reelection campaign organisation, Chief Victor Umeh and Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, wife of the governor, Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, former Nigerian Ambassador to Spain, Dr. Alex Otti, renowned banker and former gubernatorial aspirant in Abia State, National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Oye, APGA delegates and supporters across the 177 communities in Anambra state.

Earlier, the DG Obiano reelection Campaign and Senatorial candidate of APGA for Anambra Central yet to be held re-run, Chief Victor Umeh urged other contestants and political parties to play the game according to rule, which he said would bring free and fair credible poll.
