The National leadership of the United Progressive Party (UPP) has said that its August 19th, 2017 governorship primary in Anambra state must hold as earlier scheduled, despite the crisis that rages on.
That was even as one of the aspirants for the governorship ticket on the party’s platform for the November 18 election in Anambra state, Hon. Chudi Offodile, blamed the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party of acting beyond their powers.

The state working committee of the party led by Dr Sylvester Igweilo has on the 15th of August, 2017, suspended the two governorship aspirants of the party, Chudi Offodile and former minister, Osita Chidoka for anti party activities.

But the National leadership of the party responded swiftly by dissolving the state executive committee with immediate effect.

Offodile, while addressing the newsmen yesterday, said that the national leadership of the party should have the forthcoming party primary while dissolving the Anambra State executive of the party.

He further dispelled the rumour making round that he and Chidoka paid certain amount of money into the account of national chairman, describing it as false.

According to Offodile, “The fact is that the contending parties have been at loggerheads for several weeks over the list of delegates for the governorship primaries. The list of delegates elected at the ward and local government levels was unilaterally amended by the national headquarters to the chagrin of the party rank and file, yours truly inclusive”
“The state chapter waged a relentless battle with the national headquarters insisting on the sanctity of the delegates list. Obviously, someone stands to gain from the alteration of the delegates list but it would not have mattered if the alterations were legally done”
“No one or organ of the party can unilaterally remove a ward chairman or secretary or indeed any officer of the party duly elected and engage in whimsical replacements” the former lawmaker said.

However, the National Publicity secretary of UPP, Chief Ogbuehi Dike, while briefing newsmen in Awka flanked by Chief Ejike Uche, UPP Deputy National Chairman (South) and Committee Chairman for UPP Anambra 2017 Gubernatorial Primary, Chief David Ukeje, the National Administrative Secretary of UPP and Alh. Kabiru Director, Deputy National Chairman (North), said the two governorship aspirants of the party Chidoka and Offodile had been cleared for the primary.

Dike added that no delegate list was doctored as alleged by the dissolved state executive, adding that the delegates list as uploaded in UPP website is authentic list that shall be used in the Anambra governorship primary on Saturday.

The National Publicity Secretary further hinted that the party shall follow strictly, the guideline for the primary, while assuring that loyal members of UPP in Anambra state, that no member of the party who was innocent of the rebellion would suffer any sanction.
According to him, the former Acting state Chairman of the party, Sylvester Igwilo and his executive remain dissolved and would soon face disciplinary committee, even as they will soon constitute Caretaker Committee in replacement.

“Our party governorship primary election scheduled to hold on Saturday 19th August, 2017 at Emmaus House Complex Awka as communicated to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) via a letter signed by the Chairman of our great party, Chief Chekwas Okorie and received on July 10, 2017 shall still proceed unhindered.

“We therefore, call on all the good people of Anambra State to continue to support our great party for the total emancipation of the minority and the oppressed people in Nigeria. We shall stand by our promises of self determination, restructuring, referendum, resource control, state police/community policing, true federalism and unconditional release of all prisoners of conscience if you give us your mandate on 18 November, 2017”.
