That was even as All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Victor Oye faction Tuesday, elected Governor Willie Obiano as the party’s flag bearer for Anambra 2017 poll. Obiano was elected at a special congress/primary election held at Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre which is along Enugu/Onitsha Expressway.

News48hrs.com publisher, who drove through the route, observed that it took commuters between one to two hours to drive from Amansea/Enugu boundary to Awka through the Old Enugu/Onitsha road.

Some of the drivers and passengers, Ifeanyi Okeke, Abdul Musa and Uchechi Odinaka, while addressing news48hrs.com, wondered why a governorship primary of a serving governor without an opposition would obstruct people and vehicular movement on the federal highway.

Ifeanyi Okeke asked, “I wonder what would happen when he wins reelection if a federal highway could be shutdown because his party is conducting primary to pick as their consensus candidate? What has happened to the APGA secretariat under construction? What has happened to Women Development Centre? I doubt there will be any place to contain APGA if none of these places can contain it to hold its primary.

Earlier in the day, civil servants who visited their respective ministries at Awka, were told to go home or join APGA at Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, venue for APGA gubernatorial primary for Anambra 2017 poll.

The Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Communication Strategy, Tony Nnacheta, late Monday night issued a circular, urging workers not come to work as Governor Obiano had declared Tuesday work free day to enable participate on the voters’ revalidation exercise which ended yesterday.

But the aggrieved workers said the information came late as they only heard of it as they came to work that Tuesday, adding that what they were told in office was different from the circular.

Meanwhile, returning officer of the primary election, Alhaji Sani Shinkafi, who announced Obiano’s victory during the primary election disclosed that Obiano pulled a total of 1,070 to win the election unopposed.

According to him, “The total accredited delegates for the election was 1092, consisting of statutory and adhoc delegates. Yes votes were 1,070, while ‘No’ votes cast were 11. Invalid votes cast were 11 too, while five persons did not cast their votes. With this, Chief Willie Obiano stands elected as the candidate of our party.”

Addressing the party faithful, Governor Obiano, thanked the delegates for finding him worthy to run for a second term, and promised to continue harder for common good of the party and Anambrarians generally.

Speaking also, Director General, Willie Obiano 2017 campaign organisation, Chief Victor Umeh, said that Obiano has met all conditions of election and stands elected as APGA candidate, charging other political parties to elect candidates as well.
