Ezeemo, who spoke at the opening ceremony of the 2017 Afia Olu Cultural Festival organised by Nzuko Ora Nnewi at Eneta Edo Square, Nnewi, called on custodians of Igbo culture and Igbo pressure groups to look into all Igbo practices to know which to preserve, improve upon or invent.

The frontline promoter of Igbo language, further condemned the use of English Language in conducting Igbo festivals and events, charging Igbo people to flaunt their language at every given occasion.

"We Igbos should be proud of our language and communicate with it whenever we are with fellow Igbos," he said.

Speaking also, the National President of Igboezue International, Chief Pius Uchenna Okoye, flanked by other colourfully dressed members of his group, observed with dismay that people currently hide under the shadow of western religions to dishonour Igbo culture and tradition and commit all manner of impunity.

He said, "In the olden days, Igbo had "nso-ani" but today, with the invasion of western religion, people now defy tradition and commit these sacrilegious acts; people now commit incest, adultery, titled men now bear false witness at a price and these are the reasons for most problems we have in Igboland."

The Igboezue boss affirmed that it was the reason his pressure group, Igboezue, was formed; to redirect the attention of the Igbo society towards keeping her cultural values and norms, especially the Igbo language.

Afia Olu Cultural Festival is an August festival celebrated in Nnewi annually in the month of August to mark the end of the year's farming season and as a prayer for a bountiful harvest.

Various Igbo communities hold similar celebrations within the same period and for similar reasons, prominent among which is the New Yam Festival.

High points of the opening ceremony were paper presentations by various Nnewi sons on "The Sanctity of Nnewi Customs, Culture and traditions and their biblical backup," "Communion with Ancestors" and various cultural displays.
