Obiano mother's burial: Southeast governors shun Obiano, ministries, govt offices shutdown

Anambra State ministries, parastatals and the State House of Assembly were unofficially shutdown on Thursday following the burial of late Mrs. Chriatiana Obiano, the matriarch of Governor Willie Obiano and his siblings.

That was even no single governor from Southeast states of Enugu, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi and Ebonyi graced the burial although their wives came.

News48hour, who visited the areas reported that offices of major ministries and parastatals such as those of Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, MD/CEOs, Secretaries, PAs, SAs, and others were under lock and key. Also, civil servants were few on sight to be compared to what used to be tenable in the State Secretariat and Government House.

It was learnt that most of the workers who turned up to went home at about two hours behind official civil service closing hour (4pm) thereby deserting the various offices.

At Anambra State House of Assembly complex, our reporter discovered that the lawmakers who ought to sit for their usual plenary was without a single lawmaker even as major offices in the complex such as Honourable Speaker’s office and that of her Secretary, Account and others were also shutdown.

Officiating the funeral, Most Rev. Valerian Okeke, the Catholic Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, enjoined believers to remember what he called God's Reserved Area (GRA) “Death, which is meant for everyone, and Heaven and Hell meant for everyone depending on how they lived (Sirach 38:22).”

Okeke, while reiterating the bible admonition saying that if anyone believes in God, he will live forever, posited that he was sure that Late Ma Obiano will live forever because she believed in God, but consoled Obiano’s family on the life their mother spent well on earth.


Among those on the event were Anambra 2017 gubernatorial hopeful of PPA, Mr Godwin Ezeemo; Prof Soludo, ex-CBN Governor; Mr Peter Obi, ex-governor of Anambra State; Dan Bazua, the Minister of Interior; Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu; and Ogbonnia Onu, Minister of Science and Technology.
