Northern Group Honours Ojukwu University VC

By Gabriel Alonta

The Northern Youth Coalition for Peaceful Co-existence, recently, paid a courtesy visit to the vice chancellor of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu University, Professor Fidelis Okafor during which they conferred him with an award for his outstanding contributions to the educational sector and infrastructural development in the university.
The group, led by its national coordinator, Ochai Adakole, hailed the vice-chancellor as an epitome of knowledge who has garnered remarkable achievements in the COOU, the reason it had singled him out for the accolade.
Speaking during the visit, the Speaker of the Group, Danjuma Saraki, described Prof. Okafor as a true figure for national unity in the state and in the country. He cited Okafor’s role in nation building in various capacities. He specifically pointed at the fact that, under the vice-chancellor’s stewardship, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) scored COOU as the second-best university in the country going by the standard of infrastructure put in place by Prof. Okafor.
“The group deemed it appropriate to recognise and encourage him so that he can go beyond the state to extend his excellent service beyond Anambra state.
They also commended the late Igbo leader, Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, after whom the university is named, for his astuteness in uniting the Igbo nation, adding that he modelled the political uniqueness currently felt in Anambra state.
Receiving the award, the vice chancellor expressed gratitude to the group and reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the standard that his administration has set would not be compromised. He promised not to rest on his oars.
