Bishop Ezeokafor tasks Knights to be worthy ambassador

By Gabriel Alonta

The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Very Rev. Dr. Paulinus Ezeokafor has charged the Knights of the diocese to be worthy ambassador of the faith.

He made this appeal recently at 5th Joint Celebration of All Knights Day comprising of the Knights of St. Mulumba, Knights of St. John and Papal Knights held at St. Patrick Cathedral, Awka.

Ezeokafor noted that this call became imperative for the unity and uniformity of all Knights in the church, adding that it will be for the common good of the church.

“You are not to forget that one of your primary duty is to fight for the church and to protect the church by the virtue of your position and to whom much is given; much is expected.

“Because they are members of the church, we expect them to shine out in their faith, good works and the way they live.

According to the Director of Social Communication, Awka Diocese and Director of Fides Communication, Rev. Fr. Dr. Martin Anusi who deliver the lecture titled: “The concept of Synod” explained that the knights needs to understand the meaning of Synod with particular reference to the diocese because it is for the entire people of God.

He reminded the Knights that they are not just the knights of the church but also fathers and mothers in the families and parishioners where they belong.

“If these cream of people will understand the meaning of Synod and what is expected of them, I think a major work would have been done on the level of awareness and the level of active participation.

Anusi further explained that the Synod is not just for the Bishop; it is the Bishop inviting the people of God in his diocese to get feedback from what is happening in every nooks and crannies of the diocese so that it will help the Bishop make decisions on the salient issues that bother on pastoring and shouldering of the church in the diocese.

“My message to the people of God is that Synod is an invitation; that is, we are all called to be part of it and to be part of the Synod means I have to show that I am a member of the church and seeing how the church can serve the purpose of the mission of Christ in my zone, region and n my diocese”, he added.

Rev. Fr. Francis Chibuilo, the Chancellor of Catholic Diocese of Awka noted that the knights have important role to play in the church especially for the evangelisation and spreading of the Gospel.

“The bishop called once every year all the Knights in the church together to remind them of the obligation they have in contributing to the spread of faith in catholic church”, he stated.

On his part, the Chairman, Joint Council of Knights and Ladies, Awka Diocese, Bro. Emmanuel Onwuka said that the meeting with the Bishop was to re-examine themselves and renew their dedication to the diocese and humanity.

“We want to fuse together different orders of knighthood to show that we are one, doing the same work of God and for the good of the church, he added.
