By Gabriel Alonta

The Commissioner for Youth, Entrepreneurship & Sports Development, Anambra State, Barr. Uju Nwogu has charged the participants in the 2nd edition of Anambra Youths Empowerment and Skills Acquisition Training to utilise the opportunity given to them by acquiring the right skills in the areas they have chosen. This is even as she promised many more opportunities are still underway.

She made this call during the flag off ceremony of the 2017 youth entrepreneurship training & skill acquisition programme, held at the Ministry’s headquarter, Awka.

Nwogu said that over 200 Youths are all set to embark on the two weeks intensive skill acquisition training and entrepreneurial programmes on various skills like; fish hatching, shoe making interlocking, POP & tiling, phone repair, solar power & inverter, confectionery, hair making and make up among others.

“These young men and women have been drawn from all the twenty one local governments in the state for this programme to make sure every L G A is covered” she added.

The commissioner explained that the training is solely under the sponsorship of the state government in partnership with the Ministry of Youth Entrepreneurship & Sports Development, adding that it is geared towards reducing the rate of unemployment among the youths in the State.

“The training aims at inculcating in the trainees/youths confidence, equip them with contemporary skills, make them self reliant, take them off the streets and awaken them to the reality that entrepreneurship (self employment and job creation) is a potential career path in the face of dwindling economy/recession and massive youth unemployment in Nigeria”, she stated.

She further thanked the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano for his consistent commitment to the development and well being of the youths in the state.

In his remark, the Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano who was represented by the State’s Head of Service, Barr. Harry Uduh, while declaring the event open, charged the participants in the training to ensure they take the opportunity seriously and concentrate very well on their skilled area.

He advised them to be the grains that fell on the good soil as in the parable of the sower.
