A businessman from Aniocha Local Government Area of Delta State, Chukwuma Obianuwa has foiled the attempt by his wife, Faith, and her parents, Paul and Chinwe Chibuogu to dissolve their marriage of 6-years old, insisting that he was still in love with her despite her infidelity.

Chibuogu family had in 2016 filed a divorce suit at Anambra State Customary Court sitting at Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area, calling for an end to the marriage between Faith and Chukwuma, who according to them, were no longer compatible to each order.

However, Obianuwa during a court cross-examination of the case, said that his estranged wife, Faith was never tired of loving him although her parents instituted the divorce case probably because he is a Delta State man.

According to him, “I married my wife, Faith in accordance to the custom of Awka people. The traditional wedding and bride price were paid on 12th April 2011, and February 12 2012 respectively.

“The attempt to scuttle this marriage started immediately after the payment of bride price but my father-in-law who was masterminding it probably because I am a Deltan kept mute when he discovered that his daughter was pregnant.

“There was a time they even threatened to abort the child. I told them that it won’t happen, and that I would fight it at any cost if it dares happens without my conscience. Later on, people I believed to be my father and mother in-law instigated my wife to start demanding for a car.

“My wife told me to buy her latest edition of Toyota Lexus. I insisted that she can’t have that because she was still schooling. Besides, I am financially handicapped to provide for that. Again, when my wife’s pregnancy got to advance stage, the parents told me to take her to US for safe delivery across border.

“I refused and registered her at hospital at Asaba. And she was successfully delivered of our first and only daughter, Favour Onyekachi Chukwuma, born on May 13, 2013. Later on, lot of things happened during which I found out that my wife was sick and also dating a particular Emma, a Medical Student at Port Harcourt. She sometime behaved so strange to me. Sometimes, she would fight me. I took her to Prophet TB Joshua and other anointed men of God for deliverance.

“I even registered her thrice at my church, Winners Chapel bible school. She told me that religion is by heart and that I can’t force her to attend my church. But after a while, some of my pastors informed me that my wife says she has a confession to make. But they don’t know if I will find it possible to forgive her. I told them that I would even if it is infidelity.

“At the process, my wife confessed that she was dating one Edward Udobi, and that the man was using some romantic pictures they took on bed to harass and extort money from her. She said he was threatening to expose her if she dares not comply. And that she has paid much to him. But this time around, she couldn’t provide for that because he is currently demanding for the sum of N2 Million Naira. And that her conscience was judging her.

“I swooped to action by reporting the case to A Division of Nigeria Police Asaba command. The young man was arrested. He confessed to the crime and pleaded for forgiveness. I told him to submit all the romantic pictures which he did in the presence of his parents and other family members. They wrote undertaken and I forgave them”.

Obinuwa, while tendering the romantic pictures and police statements they wrote to the court as exhibits, noted that the parents of his wife were aware of the incident, and that he told them that he would still remain with his wife.

He, however, pointed out that after reuniting with his wife, his in-laws came to Lagos where they based, and whisked his wife away together with his properties without informing him what transpired.

The businessman, who reiterated that his plans to reunite with his wife were in vain as the father-in-law kept informing him that the marriage has ended, added that they were even trying to prevent him from visiting his daughter.

He, therefore, asked the court to rule in his favour as he was still in love with his wife, and wants her and their daughter, Favour to return and resume schooling at Kingdom Heritage Schools, Asaba.

The court President, Joy N. Mbachu, however, ruled that hearing should be served to Chibuogu family while adjouring the case to April 28, 2017.
