UNIZIK/NUJ Anambra Kicks-off Journalism Professional Course on March 13

All is now set for commencement of Professional Diploma course in journalism for Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Anambra State.

According to the Vice Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Joseph Ahaneku, the 18 months programme which starts on March 13, 2017 shall be commenced by the institution in affordable rate of fifty-five thousand naira per candidate.

Ahaneku also noted that the training would afford practicing journalists from other disciplines an opportunity to upgrade themselves in the nitty-gritty and ethics of their chosen profession.

He described the diploma programme as part of the institution’s community service and contributions to the training and retraining of journalists, who he described as the watch dog of the society.

While expressing her joy over the development, the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences of the university and facilitator of the programme, Stella Okunna, said that approving the take off of the Professional Diploma Programme is a step on right direction as journalists are eyes and ears of the society.              

On his part, the Head, Department of Mass Communication, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Uche Ebeze, assured practicing journalists in Anambra state that they will do everything possible to sustain the programme.

Speaking earlier, the NUJ Anambra State Council Chairman, Emma Ifesinachi, explained that the programme will afford the practicing journalists, who have no mass communication background, an opportunity to acquire the knowledge even while still working.
