The Movement for Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) has condemned the assassination attempt launched on its President, Legborsi Saro Pyagbara last week Tuesday 31 January, 2017.

Ogoni, a resource-rich but restive community in Rivers and home to late ethno-nationalist, Ken Saro Wiwa, who was hanged by the Federal Military Government on Nov. 10, 1995, was on the news last week when some hoodlums invaded Pyagbara’s office, inflicting him with injury when they could not kill him.

According to Fegalo Nsuke, the Publicity Secretary of MOSOP, “They attempted to kill him but he escaped with the help of some persons around him when they struck. They injured him, destroyed some equipment in his office, and catered away with his laptop computer set and other gadgets. We don’t know who they are and who sent them.

“The attack on our president is not only a violation of his fundamental rights but also a threat to the tenets and foundation of our struggle which is anchored on non-violence.  We consider it a sacrilege as it is not just an attack on our respected president but a direct onslaught against the successor of Ken Saro-Wiwa. This will not be tolerated. It is condemnable, degenerative, ridiculous and unacceptable. Anywhere, the police is investigating the matter. We hope to get the report soon so that the culprits would be brought to book.”
