My Priority is to make NOCEN a University of Education – Cletus Ibeto


The Chairman, Governing Council, Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, Anambra State Dr. Cletus Ibeto has reiterated his position and that of members of the college Governing Council to transform the institution to a University of Education.

Dr. Ibeto stated this during the 17th convocation of Nwafor- Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe held at the college premises on Friday.
 The industrialist who is also the Chairman/ CEO Ibeto Group of Companies said he accepted to lead the college Governing Council out of patriotism, stressing that the college which was named after his kinsman and former Nigerian Senate President, Late Dr. Akwaeke Nwafor-Orizu makes the job more challenging.

He revealed that in less than one year the institution would be converted into a University of Education as the Council was working round the clock to realize the goal.

He maintained that steps have been taken with the support of the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano to complete all the projects in the college in readiness for the approval, adding that the council has blocked all loopholes responsible for the waste of resources in the institution.

The Council Chairman who commended the state governor, Chief Obiano for the state government’s eighty million naira (80,000,000) bailout fund to the college during the July-October period expressed gratitude to him for the new salary structures of the  college staff.
In his speech, the Provost, Federal College of Education Technical, Asaba, Dr. Ignatius Ezom who was a guest to the college said he was marveled at the level of infrastructural development in the college and eulogized the state governor and the college management for working towards the upliftments of the institution.

Dr. Ezom who is also the Chairman, Committee of Provosts, Nigerian Colleges of Education said he was delighted to learn that the state government has approved a 90% salary structure for the college as canvassed by his leadership and  asked for further increment.

While congratulating the granduants, the Provost Nwafor-Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, Dr. Ego Uzoezie reminded the grandaunts comprising the set of 2013-2016 the need to be focused in life now that they have acquired a certificate (NCE) in Education.

 She counseled them to be upright in their future dealings which she noted should be devoid of anti-social vices which could ruin their lives.
 According to the college Provost, “Life must have been very tough for most of them, living very far from home and dependence and care for their respective families. But their tenacity of purpose have yielded them an eagle’s feather in their cap”

She warned that stepping out of a college or university was not a determinant to a gleeful life as life was not a bed of roses.
Dr. Uzoezie who maintained that the outside world was full of challenges, however, urged the grandaunts to guard themselves against inordinate quest for material wealth, false religious promises of magical solution to problems, poor political governance, poverty among others, stressing that their knowledge and certificate should act as their weapons of survival as the world was full of battles.

In her speech, the Commissioner for Education, Prof Kate Omenugha who represented the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano reiterated the determination of the state government to realize the goal of transforming the college to a university of Education.

Prof. Omenugha who is an alumni of the college expressed happiness over the cordial relationship existing between Nwafor-Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe (NOCEN) management and that of its affiliate institution, University of Nigeria, Nsukka  (UNN), urging that the academic standard of both institutions should be maintained.

 Prizes were later presented to granduants who excelled in their various discipline.
