Lawmaker, JAB revive Anambra Boxing

Boxing, one time booming sport feat would soon thrive in full force in Anambra State as the member representing Anaocha State Constituency one in the state legislative chamber, Charles Azubuike Okoye in partnership with Joint Association of Boxers in Nigeria (JAB) flagged off a prelude to Great Jude Ilo World Title Flight slated to hold at Alex Ekwueme Square on 26th December 2016 in the honour of Governor Willie Obiano under the title “Gov. Willie Obiano’s World Boxing Championship Bouts.”

The prelude which was held at Agulu, Anaocha local government area to commemorate Okoye’s birthday celebration, one year in legislative chamber, and his daughter, Chidubem Okoye, who recently bagged Best M.Sc. graduating student of accounts and finance, Stanford University, Manchester United Kingdom.

At the event, Great Jude Ilo, the West Africa, and National Light-Heavyweight Boxing Champion knocked out George Amusu, a Ghanaian boxer in a three round technical knockout on 82 kilogram (Light-Heavyweight); Ebenezer Okoli beat Timothy Gonze on technical knockout, 1st round in 87 kilogram (Heavyweight); Goodluck Smart defeated Kosiso Eyisi in a technical knockout, 2nd round of 64 kilogram (Light-welter); even as Chibike Anakwe came draw with Chinedu Uzoefuna on 69 kilogram (Walter-Weight).

While flagging off the occasion, Governor Willie Obiano, eulogized the organiser of the event and his partners, and expressed his willingness to ensure its continuation.

Speaking to news48hour.com, Raphael Ikediobi, leader of the team, and union leader of JAB, said they intended to use the platform to showcase to the state governor hidden potentials and revenues accruing to boxing and sports generally.

Ikediobi further explained that his association and their partners were relating with the state government and relevant ministries to sustain the project by ensuring that henceforth, boxing tournaments shall be played in Anambra every Friday.

Also speaking, Rowland Chiekelem of Casabelushi Promotions and Casabelushi Entertainment, an Angolan based entertainment promoter, revealed that his vision for the youths and children made him to partner with JAB to revive boxing in the state, and urged the citizenry to tap into the opportunity.

Also speaking, Okoye Charles Azubuike, the celebrant and boxing enthusiast, hinted that his love for boxing inspired him to use the platform to honour the governor, while thanking God for all His blessings upon his family.

In a separate interview, the Light-Heavyweight boxing champion, Great Jude Ilo, who is an illustrious son of Agulu, and his opponent, George Amusu, a Ghanaian-American, thanked God for the success of the outfit, even as they promised to do it in the state again if invited.
