Gov. Obiano Flags Off Youths Skills Acquisition at Mgbakwu

The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has officially flagged off a skill acquisition training programme for youths, as part of the administration's efforts in solving the challenges of recession in the country.
The training was aimed at empowering the youth for economic independent and sufficiency to enable them contribute their own quota towards national development. About 150 youths were participating in the first phase of this initiative which was taking place at the Federal Youth Development Center, Mgbakwu, Awka North Council of the state.
The youths, selected from the 21 Council Areas of the state and some members of the Muslim Community, are to partake in the training free of charge for 3 months.This training will be in specific areas including ICT, GSM repairs, confectionaries, cosmetics, inter-locking blocks and tiling, POP and Wall Screening, amongst others.
Upon completion of their programmes, they would be issued with Certificates while entrepreneurs will be given take-off seedmoney.
The Center, a Federal Government Project sitting on about 60 hectares of land, was completed in 2008 but has since then been abandoned until the present administration intervened and renovated the facility for onward use for the training program.
In his remark during the flag-off, Gov Obiano noted that due to paucity of funds, his administration had reactivated only 40 percent of the facility hence the number of trainees, adding that when it comes on stream fully, the facility will accomodate over 1000 trainees at a time.
He noted that the decision to embark on the programme was to initiate a system through which Youths in the State would be trained on life sustaining skills that would help them towards self actualization.
The governor revealed that the state government will do palliative work on the road leading to the facility for access while the borehole project will also be reactivated to supply water to the facility.
He urged the youths to be serious with the program and be disciplined, warning that government will not hesitate to eject anyone found to be unserious.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Youths Entrepreneurship and Sports Development, Dr Uju Nworgu said that the governor matched words with action in positively engaging youths as leaders of tomorrow, adding that he's not only training them but also creating the enabling environment for them to fully explore their potentials especially in the Sports Sector.
In a presentation, the Managing Director of Anambra Small Business Agency, ASBA, Chief Clement Chukwuka, noted that the incumbent state administration had set up the Agency to drive the process of boosting activities of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in the State through provision of start-up funds and acknowledged that the programme is key in equipping the Youths with the necessary knowledge and expertise that will make them attractive to financiers .
The President General of Mgbakwu, Chief Harold Okafor whose address was read by a former Commissioner for Lands in the State, Chief Kenneth Enenmuo, expressed the appreciation of Mgbakwu community over what the government is bringing to their area and appealed to the state government to address some key challenges militating against the full operation of the facility, assuring the Governor of their continued support.
Some of the trainees including Mr Joseph Okonkwo from Ebenebe and Hajiya Mariam Raji from the Muslim Community thanked the governor for the opportunity given to them and promised to make effective use of it
