No fewer than 120 people suffering from various types of sickness ranging from diabetes, Rheumatism, High Blood Pressure, Malaria, among others recently received free medical treatment sponsored by the traditional ruler of Igboukwu, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, HRH Igwe  Barr. Martin Ezeh (Idu).

The free treated patients, who included the people and residents of Igboukwu, Isuofia, Oraeri, Ikenga, Azuigbo, among others, also received food items and financial assistance from the sponsor, HRH Igwe Martin Ezeh (Idu), who explained that the programme was geared towards liberating his people from untold hardship virtually affecting every area of their life.

The founder of Niger Optical Services LTD, a health outfit with over 53 branches and six hospitals scattered across the country, insisted that his venture would never relent on its charity work, which according to him, began since 2004, barely a year after his coronation as a monarch.

He added that it was his contribution to alleviating the plights of Igboukwu indigent citizens and its environs who cannot afford medical bills for their various illnesses.

Hear him, “What you are seeing here is also going on at Mbieri in Owerri, Imo State where I am sponsoring free medical care for people with mental problems. Today, Igboukwu as a community has no mad people because I treated them with no cost and restore them back to be useful in the society. I have being sponsoring these free medical services to the people across the country for the past 13 years I have been on traditional stool. I derive enjoy on it because it is service to God and humanity.

“(Pointing at some patients) you see majority of these people here especially the elderly ones are abandoned by their children, nobody is taking care of them again. It is not only medical treatment they receives here, I do also assist them financially. This is because a drug without food to enable it work is fruitless.”

Expressing their happiness, some of the patients, Mr. Nwankwo Umeafudike, sufferer of High Blood Pressure and Malaria, Mrs. Elizabeth Awuluigwe (HBP, Diabetes and Malaria patient), Aniekwe Michael (Rheumatism and arthritis patient), and Christian Okoye, 85-year-old who came for financial help thanked God and the sponsor for the succor, because according to them, political leaders have abandoned them to their fate, since the Indigent citizen package initiated by former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi was abandoned by his successor, Willie Obiano.
