As Anambra 2017 gubernatorial poll draw nearer, the Former House of Assembly aspirant in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, Hon. Ikechukwu Okeakpu, has posited that the State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, may not return to the Awka Government House due to his poor performance so far.

He also described as kangaroo, the myriads of endorsements given to the governor by different organizations, even as he insisted that in 2017, Anambrarians would “speak at the polling booths by effecting a change and correction of the mistake they made in voting for Obiano in 2013.”

Speaking in exclusive interview with, Okeakpu asked “How would Obiano be contemplating on having a second term despite that his government has nothing on ground to show for his first tenure stewardship? Apart from the flyover bridge at the Awka capital city allegedly executed at the cost of N15 billion, the present APGA government in Anambra did nothing to merit second tenure.”

According to him, the current administration has no record of executed single rural road project in any community within the 21 LGAs of the state even though “they met a buoyant state with N75 billion in cash and near cash left for it; but today, we have a state highly indebted to the tune of N10 million or even more.”

The PDP stalwart, who claimed that the inscriptions “Willie is Working are only seen in newspapers, televisions, billboards, etc” as there was nothing physically to show for it, alleged that “Obiano inherited a democratically elected council officials but at the expiry of their tenure, he dissolved them and handed over the administration of the system to Heads of Service (HOS) of local governments; thereby denying the grassroots of proper representation.

“What stops the governor from constituting the Board of the state Independent Electoral Commission? What stops him from conducting council election so that the grassroots would be democratized? As it stands now, the general rating of the present APGA government in Anambra is below 35%, especially in the areas of infrastructural development, employment generation and empowerment, which are the voters’ priorities. Without this, Obiano does not deserve 2nd term, looking at his antecedents,” Okeakpu concluded.
