Tension in Anambra State Ministry of Education As Staff, Facilitators Accuse Director of Corruption, Complexity

…Facilitators lament withholding of their 1 year emoluments

Okechukwu Onuegbu

Facilitators in Anambra State Agency for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non formal Education (AANFE) have lamented over non payment of their emoluments for one year, alleging that the Director/Secretary of the Agency, Mr. Donatus Okwudili Nwosu was corrupt and lacked requisite skills to man the agency.

According to them, Mr. Nwosu complexity and incompetency is currently leading AANFE into disillusion and comatose despite the funds been spent by the federal and state governments, who aspire to use it to eliminate illiteracy in the country.

Speaking to our reporter, some of the facilitators (name withheld) revealed that “The arrival of our Director, Mr. Donatus Nwosu is to destroy us and this agency. He has no positive intention towards the exercise. Our names always appear on the payroll but the Director always cease and divert the funds into personal use.

“He keeps the agency staff stagnant and redundant as all the activities they previously handled have been abandoned because of his nonpayment of salaries. As I’m speaking to you I just woke from sleeping in the office. We come to office for coming sake. All we do on daily basis is to sleep and go home when is 4 o’clock PM.”

Also, some of the Agency’s Units Head across 21 local government areas of the state, claimed that “the unholy act” is serious affecting them as the Director owe facilitators August 2015 through the July 2016 salaries, as well as disrupts the existing Data already put in place before his coming.

They further alleged that Mr. Nwosu removed some facilitators and recruited new ones, who have not been paid since August 2015 till date even though they are still teaching at their various Adult Education Centres across the state because of their passion to keep the adult learners informed.

On their parts, staff of the Agency in Awka claimed that “Even the routine sensitisation and street monitoring exercise which are our major activities is now the story of the past. These have virtuously grounded the adult education centres in Anambra State.
“If our Director’s notoriety continues un-checkmated, it will lead to complete closure of this agency in the state. The man posted to us as Secretary/Director has no idea of non-formal education and not qualified to be here. We have been stagnated. He has made us redundant. We can’t eat or do anything again.

“It has killed our zeal to work. We have been frustrated. Our previously handled sensitisation and monitoring is no more working. The man is doing it alone on radio himself. We are appealing to the state government and national mass education commission to come to our aid. We don’t want this agency close down because it will affect the poor illiterate masses.”

Meanwhile all attempt made by our reporter to hear his side of the story proves abortive as refused to pick or return his calls.
