Anambra State House of Assembly Laments Abandonment of Road Projects

The Anambra State House of Assembly (ASHA) has urged the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano to direct the state Commissioner for Road Construction, Road Furniture & Maintenance, Chief Law Chinwuba to charge the contractor handling Egbema-Ozubulu (Ntu road)-Ihembosi-Ukpor road in Ekwusigo Local Government Area to return to site as the road had totally become impassable.

According to the lawmakers, Macmoris Construction Company Nigeria LTD the contract was awarded to on 2015, abandoned the work to unknown destination and for no reason.

Presenting the motion in the hallow chamber recently, the member representing Ekwusigo State Constituency, who is also Minority Leader of the House, Hon. Onyebuchi Offor lamented that the affected community road has hampered their access to health care services, free movements of vehicle and people to and fro the agrarian communities, even as it gives rise to road accident.

Offor, while recalling that during the road flag off, his constituents heaved a sigh of relief from their suffering, hoping to enjoy dividends of democracy and easy transportation of their agribusiness from rural to urban areas.

Other contributors to the motion, including Honourables Chugbo Enwezor, and Timothy Ifedioranma shared their experiences on the deathtrap while visiting for burial and other social engagements.

In her humble submission, the house Speaker, Rt. Hon. Rita Maduagwu said that the project was due to be tackled because it was in consonance to the section 15 (3 a) of the 1999 constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria (as amended) which vests the government with a statutory duty of providing adequate facilities for and encourage free mobility of people, goods, and services throughout the federation.
