Non Compliance to Existing Law Causes Tussle for Traditional Stools—LG Chairman

The Chairman, Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State, Hon. Chukwudi Okeke has charged communities to always adhere to established laws of the land while selecting their traditional rulers with a view to forestalling future crisis.

Hon. Okeke, who was speaking while receiving the people of Ukwulu and their Traditional Ruler-Elect, Chief Peter Uyanwa (Omelora Ukwulu), in his office, acknowledged that crisis rocking some communities were as a result of not adhering to customs and laws, including that of Anambra State Traditional Chieftaincy due to personal aggrandizement and inducement in part of kingmakers.

He however, praised Ukwulu community for their peaceful conduct before and after the election of Chief Uyanwa of Amagu village Ukwulu to replace HRH Igwe Dr. T.C Tagbo, who recently joined his ancestors, even as he promised to lead the newly elected monarch to receive his certificate of recognition from Anambra State government in one week time.

Also speaking, the President General, Ukwulu Town Union, Walter Okafor, who also belonged to the new Igwe’s age grade (Ifunanya Age Grade), hinted that election of Omelora was an art of God, as he was unanimously endorsed by the people sequel to his leadership charisma.

On his part, the Igwe-elect, Chief Peter Uyanwa (Omelora Ukwulu) pledged to be ambassador of peace in Ukwulu in particular, and in Anambra State as a whole, as well as to revitalised their agricultural sector through mechanized farming as Ukwulu was known as food basket of Dunukofia council area.

According to Uyanwa, both the educated and non-educated youths of the community would soon be involved in mechanized agriculture as he will attract the government of the day and people from abroad to invest in their arable lands.
