The Association of People Living With Sickle Cell Disorder (APLSCD), a non-governmental organisation championing the course of sicklers in Nigeria, has equipped 45 of its members in Anambra State, who were previously trained across various fields of endeavour, with start-up funds to forge ahead in life.

Distributing the funds to the sicklers, who included carpenters, farmers, artisans and fresh university graduands, National Coordinator of the association, Aisha Edward charged them to be agents of wealth creation by making judicious use of the funds with a view to moving the country forward.

According to Edward, the funds were part of the one million naira recently donated to APLSCD by the Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano.

This was even as the sicklers in Anambra State, and a woman compassionate group, Osodieme Divine Women Association, on Sunday, May 1st, 2016, attended thanksgiving mass/Fathers’ Day at St. Joseph Catholic, Church, Ekwulobia, were they sensitised congregations to always discover their genetic combinations before marriage so as to avoiding reproducing sicklers.

In a sermon, the Church Parish Priest, Rev. Celestine Anakwe lamented that pride, reckless talks and carelessness were the problem facing the mankind, and charged the world to embrace love, charity and communal services as exemplified by Christ.

At the end of the Church programme, APLSCD bestowed an award of honour and excellence to its patron, Chief Hon. Sylvester Nwobu-Alor in commemoration of this year’s Fathers’ Sunday.
