Start Taxing Churches—Ogilish Igbo Charges Gov. Obiano

By Okechukwu Onuegbu

The proprietor of Rojenny Games and Tourist Village, Oba, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Chief Rommy Ezeownuka has advised the state government to start taxing religious institutions such as churches and mosques.
Ezeonwuka, who spoke with at Awka, noted that churches should be taxed because it is a lucrative business where failed businessmen and businesswomen acquire wealth and resources they never accounted for.

Hear him: “Government should consider taxing churches. They are the most money spinning venture. All the failed businessmen have gone into it and now progressing without paying taxes. They screw their congregations and people their resources and divert them into personal uses. This is why they buy private jets, open schools that poor people will never attend…Religious people must pay their taxes”

The Ogilish Igbo (as his fondly called), equally charged the state government to consider paying none income earners, the jobless and indigent citizens what he termed ‘social warfare’.
“Igbo people are very cooperative. I am sure they will love to pay taxes if there is no multiple taxation. Again, I will advise the government to tax people based on their income. You can’t have an income and refuse to pay. This will enable the government to pay you when you don’t have an income. That is how it is in developed world. So, I am charging the government to start paying social welfare to people who don’t earn income, especially the impoverished and senior indigent citizens. Not paying them social welfare may turn them into dangerous species which would in turn make them dangerous in the society”, he said.
