Students extend free medicare to Nimo Community

In a bid to improve healthy living among the less privileged in rural areas, Pharmaceutical Association of Nigeria Students, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka has organized a One-day free medical mission to Nimo community, Njikoka Council Area of Anambra State.

Speaking at the event, Nduka Tobenna, Chairman of the Health Mission Planning Committee explained that the programme was in tune with their vision to give back to the society what they received from it.

Nduka, who disclosed that they sourced most materials and products used at occasion from various bodies, organizations and governmental agencies, expressed satisfaction at level of turnout of people suffering from various ailments including malaria, typhoid fever, diabetes, hypertension, aches of which he said, were properly diagnosed and treated.

On his part, Comrade Benedith Nwaneki, the President of the student body described the event as a charitable one meant to touch lives of needy.

According to Nwaneki, the ''Health Mission'' is an annual programme which has come to stay as they were ready to sustain it through support from agencies so as to helping indigent sick people conquer their health challenges.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke with newsmen, Mr Shedrack Nwachukwu and Mrs Priscila Okpagu from Awato village, Nimo, reiterated the needs to make it a regular exercise to enhance healthy living since for the first time in the history of their life, it enabled them to be treated of malaria, headache as well as tests for blood sugar and HIV for free.

Speaking earlier, Mr Eddy Ezeaputa, a Councillor from the community, explained that the event was a commendable exercise having received treatment for malaria, but decried low awareness campaign before commencement of the programme.
