Gov. Obiano Cautions Land developers against building on water channels

The Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State on Environment, Dr. Amaechi Ekume has lamented that indiscriminate building of structures obstruct the natural water ways and threatens the entire environment.

Dr. Ekume, who spoke in an interview with newsmen, said that  building on water channels blocks free flow of water and can force it to over flow its ways and seek other out lets which can adversely  affect infrastructure and property in the area.

He noted that such indiscriminate building of structures was a factor in devastation wreaked by erosion in some parts of the state as, according to him, the tempo of development was high across the state.

The SA urged developers to obey existing laws and go for approval from relevant government authorities, before commencing any building project, even as he enjoined them to carry out the construction in line with the approval without alteration while stressing the need for strict enforcement of extant laws that regulate building development.
