Aguata Laments Erosion Menace As Gov Obiano. Uzoezie, Others Bag Award of Excellence

Old Aguata Union (OAU), a socio-cultural organisation with a keen interest on general affairs of the three Local Government Areas in Anambra State such as Aguata, Orumba North and Orumba has called on Governor Willie Obiano to declare the zone an erosion disaster area.

OAU equally appealed for construction of more road network in the area with a view to opening the zone for massive development and investment.

Speaking at Old Aguata Day 2015 held at Marble Arch Hotel, Awka, the Awka Branch Chairman of the association, Barr John C.A Nwikpo lamented that erosion menace devastating the zone like cancer eating-up human fresh, required immediate attention so as to save lives and properties.

Nwikpo further reiterated the needs for development of Awa Ogbagu Cave as a world Tourist centre, establishment of a campus of Anambra State Polytechnic and upgrading of Orumba General Hospital to a Specialist centre.

He however, commended Governor Obiano on what he termed his set goal and an action to transform all sector of the state, and for his strides on security, infrastructural development, socio-economic cum welfare, and for appointing worthy indigenes of the zone into key positions.

On some of achievement of the union, the OAU Awka branch boss noted that they have recorded milestones in fostering unity, peace, understanding and cultural interactions amongst the indigenes of the zone and beyond her boundaries.

Earlier in a lecture entitled Developing Entrepreneurial Skills and Investment Opportunities in Old Aguata, Prof. Benjamin Osisioma of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka enjoined people to develop a habit of making some savings out of current income, cultivate self-discipline to conserve and nurture what has been saved and to profitably invest it, and ability to identify opportunities, select priorities and value alternatives among objectives.

Governor Obiano, who was represented at the occasion by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Solomon Chukwulobelu disclosed that his administration would never relent its bids to transform Anambra to Dubai.

Speaking after receiving an award, the Provost Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, Dr. Ego Uzoezie thanked her people for finding worthy of the new accolade, even as she pledged to remain focus on imparting people life positively.

News48hrs.com reported that among the highlights of OAU 2015 Day were awards of Good Governance and Excellence the association bestowed on governor Willie Obiano, and to some distinguished indigenes of the zone including Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Chris Okey Ezike; Dr. Ego Uzoezie, Provost of Nwafor Orizu College of Education Nsugbe; Arc. Michael Okonkwo, CEO/MD, Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA); Chief Sam Okey Nwosu, CEO of Marble Arch Hotels, and others.
