Unizik Produces 1,913 medical doctors, Call For Partnership

The College of Health Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nnewi Campus has graduated not less than 1,913 medical doctors since its existence.
Prof. Joseph Ahaneku, the University Vice Chancellor, who stated this at 38th induction of 56 medical graduands of the citadel of learning recently, noted that the event marked the crowning point from the tolls of many years of strenuous efforts.
He however vowed to strengthen his effort to pursuing vigorously the realization of the university vision on the basis of which he sought appointment as the vice-chancellor of Unizik.
His words, “Within my tenure as vice-chancellor, I have transform the university into one of the best five hundred (500) universities in the world; one of the best hundred universities in Africa and the best university in Nigeria. In this, the faculty of medicine and the college of health sciences in which it is domiciled will receive appropriate attention. I am calling on eminent academia and sister institutions for a partnership which will argument the process of achieving my objectives”.
Speaking earlier, the Dean of medicine, College of health Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nnewi Campus, Prof. Ebele Ugochukwu advised the graduands to always strive for excellence, recognize their limit and unabashedly solicit for help from more experienced medical practitioners when the needs be without any reservations.
While admonishing the graduands, one of the parents of the graduands, Dr. Charles Osuji, maintained that doctors have the monopoly to heal the sick and possibly postpone premature death, even as he insisted that such power must not be abused.
Earlier, the provost of the college, Prof. Alexander Nwafor intimated the university community some of the various projects of the college that needed great support to include but not limited to procurement of new classroom and office block at Okofia, expansion and renovation of Anatomy department, faculty of health science & technology building, internal road at Okofia, medical student hostel at NAUTH, new class A hostel for Nnewi Campus to be sited at the permanent site, provision of one new bus for the college among others.
In her response, one of the graduands who made the lists among the ten best-graduating student of the college in 2015, Dr. (Miss) Omenugha Stella-Maris Nkem, the daughter of Prof. Kate Omenugha(Anambra State commissioner for education) expressed profound gratitude to her lecturers for given her the best and her parents for financial and emotional supports towards achieving this objective. She noted that becoming medical doctor has been her life dream, and now it was like a dream come fulfilled.
She however, consoled her course-mate who did not graduated with her for one academic  problems or the other to be more focus, prayed that with ardent studies and God’s grace they will scale through the exams and graduate like others.
The high point of the induction was the taking of the Hippocratic Oath, making of pledge and affirmation of the physician Oath using bible, Koran or ofor.
