Anambra State House of Assembly Urges Governor Obiano to Build Efficeint Revenue Collection Data Base

Anambra State House of Assembly has urged the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano to direct all the state ministries, agencies and parastatals to build what they termed “efficient revenue database”.

According to the state legislators, the data base would help the state to increase its internally generated revenue.

This followed a motion moved by the Member representing Orumba North State constituency, Hon. Romanus Ugochukwu Obi, stressing that database is an information system that supplies data and forms the basis for accessing revenue payable by individuals, organisations, shops, among other business concerns.

Hon. Obi, who added that revenue database will also enable the government during budgeting to make reasonable estimates of internally generated revenue, explained that it will also empower the government to block sources of revenue leakages.

He further disclosed that actualising revenue database will help the state to over perform even without revenues from the federation account.

Speaking after listening to contributors to the motion, Rt. Hon. Rita Maduagwu called on the governor to direct the Ministries of Lands and Survey, Housing, Anambra State Urban Planning and Development, and others to share data information available to them  with others through registration of lands and buildings and processing of certificate of occupancy.

Meanwhile, the State House of Assembly, last Thursday, commended Governor Willie Obiano for flagging-off two commercial agricultural programmes at Anaku and Omasi in Oyi Local Government Area.

The motion was moved by Hon. Uche Okafor of Ayamelum constituency, while noting that agriculture is a rewarding occupation that needs to be harnessed and developed across the state, even as he disclosed that his constituency has about 70% estimated 10 million hectres of arable lands lying in waste as only 40% is currently in use.
He therefore enjoined the governor to continue on his giant strides in developing the state agricultural sector as the citizenry are solidly behind him.
