World Environment Day: Anambra State Embarks on Tree Planting

In the spirit of commemorating the “2015 World Environment Day”, the Anambra State Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Evaristus Uba has appealed to the populace to properly dispose waste.
Uba, who stated this in an exclusive interview with, maintained that good environment transcends to good health, even as he added that environmental abuse leads to epidemics, soil degradation, among others.

According to the Commissioner, the State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano was working assiduously to ensure that the state kick-start conversion of waste to wealth in due time.
“Some companies have indicated interest. And Governor Obiano is working very hard to ensure its fruition. Our dumpsites are properly kept for easy access once everything about conversion of waste to wealth is finalized. ”, he said.
“I am charging Anambrarians and residents to always keep their environments clean through avoidance of indiscriminate disposal of waste. Our people should properly use the waste bins provided for them and other personal things that would aide to tidy their environments copiously,” Uba added.
On “Sustainability of life”, which is the theme for this year’s world environment day, Chief Uba disclosed that Anambra State Government has embarked on tree planting using Aguleri as focus.
He however, said that tree planting is not meant to checkmate soil degradation alone but to also showcase people the essence of regeneration.
Meanwhile the Anambra State House of Assembly on Thursday passed two bills which include the Anambra State Waste Management (ASWAMA) bill 2015 and Anambra State Traffic Management bill 2015.
ASWAMA law empowered the agency to set-up court for trial of environment offenders; imposition of levies on residents of the state, companies, among other things that would help in keeping the state clean.
