The Governor of Anambra State has commissioned completed multi-million Naira projects in two Schools in Onitsha, the commercial city of the state.

The projects are part of Governor Willie Obiano’s commitment to improving the academic and infrastructural standards of education across public and mission schools in the state.

They were completed through a functional relationship between the State Government and the mission.
A hostel and refectory worth 64 million Naira and a perimeter fence, constructed at Queen of the Rosary College (QRC) and Anglican Girls’ Secondary School, Onitsha were part of the projects.
Expressing appreciation to the government, the Principal of QRC, Reverend Sister Maria Nwankwo, commended the State Governor for continuing, completing and commissioning projects begun by his predecessor and urged him to commence with new projects which she hoped would involve the reconstruction of dilapidated structures in the school.
The Governor, in his response, cited his secondary school days at Christ the King College, which was opposite the girl’s school, talking about their mass celebration in one of the halls.
He acknowledged the truth in the principal’s submission and promised to address the issue, especially the erosion menace that is threatening the school.
Governor Obiano further moved on to an Anglican Girls’ Secondary School at Nkpor, where a perimeter fence built by the State Government was also commissioned.
The School Principal, Peace Ofoche, also applauded the Governor for his determination in the area of security and education, where he has introduced measures that have not only given a boost to academic experience in the state, but have also motivated teachers.
She enumerated the benefits of the fence around their school which among many, was the idea of cutting off refuse dumping in the school premises.
The Governor, who expressed displeasure over the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the school premises by traders in a nearby market, however, ordered the Commissioner for Environment to do the needful and provide receptacles for the market.
