Nnewi stood Still For Chief Victor Umeh, APGA's National Chairman and Ndukwe Senatorial Ambition

Nnewi, the home town of the First senate President of Nigeria, Senator Nwafor Orizu and the late Igbo warlord, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, was agog as the stakeholders and members of the All progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) converged in the industrial city to canvas votes for president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and APGA candidates in Anambra State.

The sensitisation campaign, which took place at Nwafor Orizu compound in Otolo ward 1, Nnewi, attracted government functionaries, APGA bigwigs including their flag bearers in the March 28 and April 11 general elections.

 The convener of the meeting, Prince Nnamsom Nwafor-Orizu said the gathering is to sensitise the people of Nnewi and its environs on the forth coming elections and to expose many gains of Nnewi people under Governor Willie Obiano’s administration. 

“Gov. Obianor’s twelve months in office have been a period of excellent leadership, transformational governance, all road development across the length and breadth of Anambra State.
“We the people of Nnewi have not been left out in the wind of change that is blowing in Anambra State as we now have more representation in government than ever before” he said.
Nnamsom, who is the State chairman, Anambra state Committee on petroleum said that Governor Obiano gave Nnewi over seven appointments, commissioned several roads, including the Enem-Awka Etiti road, Coscharis-Akamili road,  Nwafor Orizu avenue from Eke Amobi to Amichi and have as well, empowered over 500 youths Nnewi.

He, however urged the people to pay back by voting APGA candidates in the forth coming elections to spur the governor to do more, even as he reminded them that APGA endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan, who he said deserves a second term in office.

The State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Chief Tony Oyima, in his remarks, described Nnewi as the spiritual home of APGA and a strategic area for the nation’s economic growth and development, stressing that “Nnewi is not only strategic to Anambra but to the entire south east in particular and Nigeria in general”
“APGA must not lose in this town because all the development in this town since nine years ago comes from APGA. It is very important, APGA wins 100 percent because the economic renaissance of the south east starts from Nnewi if the people gets it right” he snapped.
The son of Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu and APGA House of Representatives candidate of Nnewi North/Nnewi South/Ekwusigo constituency, Chief Emeka Ojukwu (Jnr) x-rayed how his late father made a lot of sacrifices in championing Igbo course and vowed to make his own sacrifice in ensuring that things get better for his constituents and the entire south Eastners.
“I am going to Abuja to leave a life of servitude in the lives of the people of the south east wherever they are. I am happy we are meeting in the house of Chief Nwafor Orizu to renew strength. If you elect me, I will concentrate on motions that will bother on power to ensure that Nnewi gets constant power supply as the industrial base of the south east among other things.
Others who spoke at the event include the former NCC boss and APGA senatorial flag bearer, Anambra South, Engr. Ernest Ndukwe, SSA to governor on youth mobilisation, Hon. Chinedu Obidigwe, Anambra state Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon. Chukwudi Orizu among others.
