Ousted Onitsha South LGA boss drags Obiano, 25 others to Court this week Wednesday

Justice I.B Gafai of Federal High Court Awka, Anambra state would on Wednesday, this week, entertain hearing on the case filed against Governor Willie Obiano and 24 others.

The court case was initiated by ousted Chairman of Onitsha South Local Government Area, Anambra state, Lady Ann Chukwuneke, who filed a suit challenging her impeachment from office.

Lady Chukwuneke, recalled, was ejected out of office last month on allegation of gross misconduct while in office leveled against her by twelve out of the seventeen councillors representing various wards in Onitsha South Council Area, and as a result, her former Deputy; Hon. Alex Egbuna Achebe was swore-in as a substantive Chairman two weeks ago, following the Councillors adoption of a panel report instituted by the state Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Peter Umeadi to investigate the allegation.

Inisiders earlier alleged that Governor Obiano, when consulted by the embattled Hon. Chukwuneke, told her to go home and rest because nothing could restore her mandate even court.

Despite this, "Nkiruka Bread", as Lady Chukwuneke is popularly known for, approached Awka, Federal High court with her team of supporters, last Wednesday,  in order to lawfully agitate for her return match.

The However, Justice I.B Gafai, who presided over the petition at the Federal High Court, adjourned hearing on the impeachment saga to next Wednesday, 10th December, 2014, following a plea by counsel to the petitioner and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Ozoemena Onyali, who asked for an adjournment to enable him, put his records straight.
Reacting after the adjournment, loyalists to the Former Council Boss appealed to court to expedite action towards allowing justice to prevail on the matter.
Speaking to us, one-time President General of the Agulu People’s Union, Chief Anthony Oguejiofor said the impeachment meted against Lady Chukwuneke should be revisited, because according to him, it was condemnable, even as he appealed to Governor Willie Obiano to intervene on the matter with a view to restoring a woman who has “requited herself well while in office”.
Also speaking, the Leaders of the Hausa and Yoruba Communities in Onitsha South Local Government Area, Alhaji Ilyasu Yushau and Chief Abdul Zubeiru expressed displeasure over the incidence and reiterated the needs for court to do justice to the matter immediately.
In their separate remarks, the patron, Leaders of Thought in the affected council area, Chief Augustine Ilechukwu and the Acting Chairman of widows in the Local Government Area, Mrs. Emilia Obiaguim expressed optimism that outcome of the court would reinstate the former council boss to her position.
