The women who arrived the council headquarters, Woliwo, Onitsha at about 7.00 am on Monday carried placards with some inscriptions:”Order the return of Ann Chukwuneke as our council boss”,  “NCWS, Pls look into the problems of this woman, Ann Chukuneke, and "widows of Onitsha South support Lady Ann and her administration”.
Some of the widows encountered chanted solidarity songs showering curses on those who planned the removal of the local government boss.
A widow and leader of the protesters, Mrs. Martha Anozie said that the embattled local government boss was widow friendly and had supported the cause of widows in the area and pleaded with the state governor, Dr. Willie Obiano not to join others in witch-hunting the woman who had shown so much affection to the cause of widows in the council area.
Another woman, a seventy-five year old, Madam Lucy Obieze who was full of tears pleaded with the Gov. Obiano to allow Lady Chukwuneke continue her job as an elected local government chairman, adding that all those who plotted and supported the removal of the council boss would be cursed if they did not rescind their decision.
In an address to the women, the embattled local government boss Lady Ann Chuwuneke ( Mama Onitsha South) observed that she was surprised at her purported illegal impeachment by some councilors in the local government attributed her ordeal to some unscrupulous politicians who are bent on discrediting her for their own selfish ends.
She lamented that all entreaties made by reporting the matter to the state governor, Dr. Willie Obiano proved abortive as the governor has kept a deafening ear to her plight, adding that some powerful forces in government might be responsible for her plight.
She urged the women to remain calm and law-abiding as all injustices meted out to her would be corrected by God.
The local government chairman who was highly emotional throughout her speech, however, thanked  the women for their solidarity and support and to continue to pray for her safety.
Mrs. Nneka Onyido, a thirty- five year old widow was seen weeping openly, uttering that the council boss was being persecuted by those who think they are yet to benefit from her administration.
She stated that Lady Ann Chukwuneke has severally fed widows from Onitsha South Council area through her widows empowerment programmes and donations to the poor.
