Full speech of Anambra Commissioner for Information at Obiano's 100 days in office

WELCOME REMARKS BY THE COMMISSIONER FOR INFORMATION, CULTURE AND TOURISM, CHIEF TONY ONYIMA AT THE EVENT MARKING FIRST 100-DAYS IN OFFICE OF THE OBIANO ADMINISTRATION AND THE UNVEILING OF THE CORPORATE SYMBOLS OF ANAMBRA STATE AT THE WOMEN DEVELOPMENT CENTER, AWKA, ON JUNE 25, 2014

Protocol.
Ndi Anambra, udo dili unu.
We are gathered here today to look back at the last 100-days of the Willie Obiano administration in Anambra State. The concept of observing the First 100 Days in office became very significant when the US President, Franklin Delano Roosevelt got the parliament to pass what the Americans call “The New Deal” in a bid to haul America out of The Great Depression in the 1930s.
The drastic initiatives that he proposed in “The New Deal” were to eventually set the standards by which subsequent American presidents were judged in their First100-Days. The rest of the world has since adopted that paradigm and in Nigeria’s recent democratic experience, it has become a standard practice.
The Obiano administration was inaugurated on 17th March 2014.  Looking back in the last 100-Days in Anambra State, there are strong signs to see that our elders were right when they said that Morning shows the Day. We have seen the emergence of a whole new philosophy of governance and a pragmatic high-velocity approach to solving the developmental challenges of our time. The story of this change will be told in words and in moving pictures here today.
Now, today is a special day. And we know why. Not only are we marking the great achievements of this administration in the last 100-Days, but we also have in our midst today, one of Africa’s most gifted story tellers who is also a proud daughter of Anambra State. Ndi Anambra Unu nwelu madu! I am talking about the multiple prize- winning novelist and compelling public speaker, Chimamanda Adichie. Chimamanda is one of the leading lights of her generation and a great ambassador of Anambra State. Very soon, she will be speaking to us in that remarkable voice that has drawn the attention of the rest of the world to the African narratives and the Nigerian story – nay, the Igbo story. Anyone who has read any of her books will testify that Chiamamanda bu nke anyi. Ezigbo nwafor Abba!
Another thing that makes today special is that very soon too, His Excellency, the governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, will be unveiling the new corporate symbols of Anambra State. These elements were carefully selected to symbolize the intrinsic values and enduring philosophies of Ndi Anambra.
These are the intangible components of governance that form the core of any meaningful persuasive effort that will help our people to come together as one on the altar of brotherhood.
Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to welcome you once again to this great occasion.
Thank you
Hon. Tony Onyima
Commissioner for Information,Culture and Tourism
