At last, Senator Ngige reacts to his failure at Anambra Governorship Election Tribunal

"Anambra Tribunal Judgement is Absurd, Shocking"- Ngige

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 16, 2013 governorship election in Anambra state, Senator Chris Ngige has described the dismissal of his petition by the Anambra Election Tribunal as absurd and shocking.

Fielding questions from journalists in Enugu, today, Ngige said that he weeps for the nation’s judiciary even as he announced that his lawyers had already commenced processes to appeal the judgment.

“We have noted with consternation the judgment reeled out by the Justice Ishak Bello tribunal, and we only have two messages: one is that I weep for the judiciary, if such a judgment should come from the bench where we have justices that have spent more than ten years on the bench, where arguments, evidence have been adduced to show that the election were not compliant with the Electoral Act and they are swept under the carpet.

“And we are now told that we couldn’t prove our case because we didn’t bring INEC… INEC is a respondent in the case, so we have no alternative than they have to defend themselves. But in this instance, all the evidence we adduced, INEC refused to counter them, they didn’t put up any witness, they refused to put a single witness”, he said.

Senator Ngige dismissed insinuations in some quarters that APC members from South East have been schemed out of things in the coming national convention, noting he is the secretary of the convention committee and that most of the positions zoned so far are still open-ended as anybody from anywhere could vie for them if at the end of the day consensus could not be reached.

In a remark, Enugu State Chairman of APC, Dr. Ben Nwoye said that APC in Enugu state is fully prepared and mobilized for the coming national convention of the party in Abuja, and expressed happiness that members of the party in the state are serving as chairmen, co-chairmen and members in the convention planning committees and sub-committees.
