Youth train to tackle insecurity

The Nigerian Youth Leadership Advocacy Group (NYLAG) has embarked on an enlightenment and training programme for youths on the current security challenges in the country.

The National Coordinator of the group, Kachi Eze, made the announcement at a news conference on Thursday in Lagos.

The media reports that the group is seeking to promote ethical and transparent leadership among youths.

“Our group is a local security intelligence body, an initiative designed to serve as one of the intervention tools meant to curb insecurity in the country.”

“Which is why we are trying to put together training for youths, based on security.”

“We want our voices to be heard, it is time we stopped staying silent on this issues.”

He noted that the reason youths did not speak collectively was because of a lack of information about security challenges.

Eze said that NYLAG would work with foreign and local security experts to train 1 000 youths to achieve its aim, beginning with Lagos State.

A security expert, Agidingbi Olaoluwa, commended security agencies in the country for the roles they were playing in tackling the security crisis.

“The government is trying its best to secure lives and property but bulk of the security should be done by individuals.”

“Personal security is very important, those you depend on may fail you but you cannot fail yourself.”
He, however, called for an improved salary structure for the Nigeria Police Force, blaming poor funding for the problems plaguing the police.

A youth leader, Adeniran Olushola, also advised youths against being used by politicians as thugs during the 2015 elections

“If any politician comes to give you money to kill or cause mayhem, open up and tell the person out rightly that you are an agent of change.”

He also advised parents to bring up their children in the way of God to prevent from falling victims to the machinations of politicians.
