Abuja - Sarah Jibril, the Special Adviser to the President on Ethics and Values, has called on Nigerians to reject the call on the government by some western organisations to reconsider the same sex union.

Jibril said this on Tuesday in Abuja at the opening of a one-day National Theology Seminar on same sex union, organised by the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN).

She said that individuals, government and even private institutions must unite against the same sex union, noting that it was barbaric and against the typical African values.

“Same sex union is an aberration that must not be supported by any right-thinking Nigerian. We must all reject overtures and all forms of imposition of same sex marriage by the west.”

“The west must respect our culture and values and this we must not jettison for any kind of pecuniary gains; same sex marriage is bad and must not be accommodated,” she said.

Jibril commended the National Assembly and President Jonathan for standing firm against the proponents of the “unholy act” in spite of the pressure from the West and some wealthy individuals.

She described the efforts of the Church and some faithful as courageous and worthy of support by all and sundry.
