UA-49400959-1

The Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State has honoured the Rector of the institution, Prof. Godwin Onu, for his infrastructural development.
The Chairman of the board, Dr Azubike Odukwe, while presenting a plaque to the rector on Friday, described him as ``an exceptional administrator’’ whose performance was unequalled since the inception of the institution.
Dr. Odukwe noted that the honour was in commemoration of the rector’s second tenure in office to encourage him to surpass his present achievements.
``The Council of Heads of Polytechnics and Colleges of Technology in Nigeria who were in Oko last week confirmed the infrastructural strides of Prof. Onu in this polytechnic.
``The Onu-led administration has placed the institution among the best in the country. We are happy for the cordial relationship that had existed between the rector and the present governing council.
``He is a focused manager who is not giving in to distractions. We wish him a bountiful tenure because we know that he will do more than he did in the first tenure,” Dr. Odukwe said.
Responding, the Rector commended members of the council for the honour, adding that it would spur him to do more because ``to whom much is given, much is expected.
“I feel honoured and motivated toward greater achievements with the present governing council. To the best of my knowledge, this is the first time a governing council is giving an award to a rector in this country.
``God is at work here and I am privileged to be part of it. Destiny has put in people with the zeal to redeem this polytechnic and reposition it for greater success.
``I believe that by the time we finish our tenure here, the polytechnic will take its proper place as one of the best institutions in the world.
``I want to plead that even if I make mistakes as a human being, please call my attention and I will make amend. I am a man of peace and there is no alternative to peace.’’
