First Day in Office: Governor Obiano of Anambra re-appoints ex-State SG, others into executive council

By Okechukwu Onuegbu

Anambra state New-Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, today, retained Mr. Oseloka Obaze as Secretary to the State Government. Mr. Obaze held similar position in the immediate past administration.

However, an insider alleged that appointment of Obaze may not be unconnected with an earlier agreement to step-down for Obiano during the APGA’s Governorship Primary last year.

It would be recalled that Mr. Henry Oseloka Obaze contested the party’s primary alongside Obiano, Idigo among others while it was rumored that erstwhile Governor Obi had zoned it to people of Anambra North senatorial zone.

Then, Obaze seemed to be most populous among other contenders from the zone, yet he was disqualified during the party’s governorship aspirants screening exercise sequel to what they termed none possession of voter’s card. The APGA primary’s election later came and gone with Obiano emerging victorious despite been among the last entrant to the contest.

With today’s re-statement of Mr. Henry Obaze as SSG, one would conclude that he is holding the position for a third time. First was official performed by former Governor Obi, who also reappointed him on 29th August last year after his disqualification to contest guber poll under the platform of APGA.

Other principal officers Gov. Obiano appointed today were Prof Joseph Asike as Chief of Staff and Mr Willy Nwaokoye as his Principal Secretary.

The state Solicitor General, Mrs Emeke Ekwue performed the oat taking after appointments were announced at end of first state Executive Council Meeting presided over by Governor Obiano amidst of the former commissioners left still as a result of continuity.

Speaking at the event, Chief Obiano described the newly appointed executive as capable hands who have distinguished selves in the various field of endeavour, careers and private business, even as he charged them to serve diligently as the tasks ahead need best hands to paddle it.

Responding on behalf of others, Mr. Oseloka Obaze expressed his readiness to meet the expectations of the governor and the state generally so as to ensure massive development and hitch-free tenure.
