Anambra 2017: Obiano, Obaze, Chidoka, others shun IPAC gubernatorial debate

By Okechukwu Onuegbu

Not fewer than six popular gubernatorial candidates and political parties participating on Anambra November 18 governorship election shunned the Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC gubernatorial debate held at Women Development Centre, Awka.

The event which was meant for 35 participating political parties' governorship and deputy governorship candidates only featured 17 gubernatorial parties' as Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), All Progressives Congress (APC), United Progressive Party (UPP), Progressives Peoples Alliance (PPA) and Labour Party (LP), candidates missing in action.

But responding to the question on why they were absent, the state Chairman of IPAC, Prince Bartho Igwedibia alleged that they were frustrated because the group could not allow them to hijack the debate.

"We informed them officially, I have their phone numbers and addresses. I sent text messages as well. But because they wanted to hijack the debate we stopped them and that was why they did not participate.

“Everything went fine as planned. IPAC is an umbrella body of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, registered political parties. We organised the debate to enable the candidates present their manifesto and showcase what they intend to do to the people of the state if elected. I want to assure you that Anambra eligible voters will decide who shall become their governor from one of the 17 participated gubernatorial candidates present.”

Among the governorship candidates present were Pastor Praise Okechukwu of the Mega Party of Nigeria, Paul David of African Democratic party, ADC, Green Party of Nigeria (GNP), Democratic Alternative (DA), Peoples Progress Party (PPP), etc.
Earlier, Chairman of the occasion, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife commended the candidates for coming out to canvass for better Anambra, urging them not to leave their electoral manifestoes when elected.
