Group empowers Anambra communities with radio sets

Justice, Development and Peace Caritas (JDPC), Archdiocese of Onitsha has donated twenty transistor radio sets to various communities under its outreach program.

JDPC made donation on Tuesday at its Secretariat, Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity to representatives of various communities for easy dissemination of information of JDPC activities, general information about healthy living, good governance, and others including to encourage generality of the public to listen to radio programs in their work places.

Making the donation in Onitsha, the Communication Manager of JDPC, Onitsha Catholic Archdiocese, Mrs. Chinelo Nwakwesili disclosed that the transistor radio was made available courtesy of the JDPC and their sponsors, V2P (Voice to the People) as a display of concern to the public to be enlightened on social, economic and political activities around them.

Nwakwesili, disclosed JDPC plans to visit various markets and churches in Onitsha and its environs, which they observed that their environment has grossly degenerated with filth, coupled with the habitual nature of residents who regularly dump waste products into the drainage system.

She informed that the visits were aimed at sensitising the general public and the government against on the needs for proper disposal of wastes by government agents involved, indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the gutter to avoid obstructing free flow of flood in water channels and general health of people.

Participants at the gathering, who included media practitioners and community leaders, affirmed the need to visit churches, markets and government, as it would bring about positive result as the churches and markets command strategic positions in the life of the people.
