A pressure group, Ogbodogbo/Ugbongene Landlords Association, Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State has sent-save-our-soul message to the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano, alleging that indiscriminate dumping of human waste in the two layouts by the Soak-Away-Cleaners working within Onitsha has swallowed people of Onitsha and their environs.
The association which claimed that they duly acquired the vast expanse of the land from different families in Obosi for residential purposes of their members, lamented that their effort is being challenged by the frustration they are currently facing.
Expressing their grievances to news48hrs.com, who visited the layouts, the landlords lamented that some unscrupulous families in Obosi allegedly made arrangement with some Soakaway Cleaners to be using the layouts as a dump site to the detriment of the purpose in which the lands were acquired.
Chairman of the layouts, Chief Patrick Ngadiuba said; "these Obosi elements collects from Soak Away Cleaners fees ranging between (N700.00) Seven Hundred and (N1,000.00) One Thousand Naira as case may be per tanker of excrement which is dumped in the layouts, he said.
Lamenting that these Soakaway Cleaners have covered the entire layouts with human faeces to the detriment of the property owners, to the extent that the landlords individual plots/property are completely overtaken with human waste, making it difficult for the landlords to enter into and continue development on their respective properties, the Chairman of the property owners pleaded with the authorities concerned to come to their aids and save them from being drowned by human waste.
Being mindful of danger posed by the presence of the untreated human waste/faeces and the continued dumping of the human waste in the layout in terms of serious health and epidemic hazard to both persons working and living in the layouts, the landlords said; "above all, the entire farmlands remaining in the layouts have been overtaken and displaced by the human waste.
"That even the nearby Federal Government Metallurgical Training Institute will sooner or later be affected", the stated.
Praying the Honourable Commissioner Health, Anambra State to use his good office and wade into the situation and stop the unwholesome act and further direct that commensurate compensation be paid to them as their properties have ravaged and destroyed by development to enable them clean up the area, the landlords also said they are expecting prompt and immediate action as this, according to them would save them from the anticipated agonies to their lives and their possessions in the layout.
Reacting when contacted, a prominent man in Obosi community who never wanted his identities disclosed said he is away of the predicament of the landlords, adding that he has taken the matter before the traditional ruler of the town, Igwe Chidubem Iweka, Eze Obosi to address; "But because the palace is benefiting from the proceeds of human waste/faeces, our monarch swept my complaint under his bed", the anonymous Chief stated.

Efforts made to reach the traditional ruler of Obosi Community, Igwe Chidubem Iweka to comment on the development yielded no fruit but the Palace Secretary, Chief Shedrack Okenwa said they have gotten the report and they are studying what could be done to correct the issue.
