Tension is currently building up in the family of a onetime speaker of the Anambra state House of Assembly, Dr Kanayo Enemuo, who died two weeks ago.

Enemou, it would be recalled, died of undisclosed ailment although unauthorized family sources claimed that it was not unconnected to spinal cord related issues which led to his admission to hospital and subsequent death later.

According to the source, problem started after his death as his personal driver (name withheld) allegedly absconded with his car to an unknown destination.

However, the source revealed that a week after Enemou’s demise, the wife moved to eject the orderly a staff of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC), from the family house, saying that his services is no longer needed.

She was alleged to have said that the family is more comfortable with the security man.

According to the source, Mrs. Enemou is working in tandem with the security man in an attempt to eject the orderly from their home.

It was also gathered that Mrs. Enemou has agreed to the terms of financial settlement with the embattled orderly, who demanded for three months pay off. further learnt that a widow (name withheld), who had been living with the orderly in a single room owned by the deceased, has threatened to abandon him should he refuse to demand for N105, 000 as his three months’ pay-off salary arrears accruing from N35, 000 per month.

Another source added that the widow, who hails from Bayelsa State and a staff of NSCDC has left the bachelor to her previous apartment, even as the Akwaibom born orderly is struggling to rent apartment and park out of Enemou’s home even though the wife of her late boss is yet to pay him.

Life and time of Enemou

Late former Speaker Enemuo rose from the floor of the hallow chamber to Speakership of the house in deep controversy when it was reported that he was 'elected' Speaker in the wee hours of the morning around 3am by unclear number of members amidst the House face-off with the executive arm in the early life of that era, 1999-2003.

He was said to be the choice of Gov. Chinwoke Mbadinuju who was bickering with the legislature over the choice of its principal officers, particularly the post of Speaker.

A lawyer by profession, Enemuo was elected into the state Assembly from a popular vote of his constituency, Awka South Two state Constituency.

As part of peace and reconciliation process which was brokered by the then Speaker of House of Representatives, Alh. Salisu Buhari, Enemuo was dropped but given soft landing as the state's Commissioner for Lands.

Since then he remained a kitchen cabinet member of Gov Mbadinuju's administration till it exited with the loss of a reelection bid in 2003.

As Commissioner of Lands, controversy marred his days as acquisition of land and Certificate of Occupancy(C of O) had allegedly remained undefined, a record that insiders say marked the beginning of the problems that exists in the processing of lands documents in the state till date.

Dr Enemuo is a native of Nibo, Awka South council of the state. Though his demise has remained unannounced, the family according to our close source, has started making arrangements towards formal announcement and burial plans.
