Embrace Education in Totality, Anambra Monarch Charges Youths

By Okechukwu Onuegbu

The Traditional Ruler of Nawgu, Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State, His Royal Highness Igwe G.E. Okaa-Onwuogu (Igwe Orachili na Nawgu) has charged youths to embrace education while they were young as it opens the door for greater opportunities.
According to Igwe Okaa-Onwuogu, formal and non formal education was indeed the bedrock of every society because it empowers its beholders to decisively strive for realization of their dreams, even as it informed the uninformed in the society.

Speaking to at his palace, the Nawgu monarch, who retired in 2008 as Deputy Director from Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), explained that it was to that effect he introduced into his community, adult and non-formal education (for primary and secondary school) which has given rise to higher number of literates among them, even as he resuscitated their existing conventional schools since 2014 he was crowned.

While adding that his passion for education attracted one of their illustrious sons, Tony Nneemego Foundation to initiate educational scholarship to their deserving populace, Igwe Orachili enjoined students to face their studies squarely, and his subjects to invest in agriculture like cassava and garri farming, which he said his community is renowned for due to its arable soil.

On what delayed his certificate of recognition as Igwe till last two week, the monarch revealed that the then Chairman of his council whose duty it was to officially present him to the state after he was duly elected and crowned, refused insisting that someone else had interest on the throne, thereby prompting his subjects to drew the attention of the state government to their aid; and it came and conducted series of investigation whose outcome favours him.

The successor of Late Igwe Gabriel Nwegwu (who passed on in 2006), however, disclosed that the certificate never deterred him from playing key roles as traditional ruler as his feats so far include making Nawgu the most peaceful in Dunukofia LGA, reorganizing their age grade groups and other vital communal organisations for unanimous development of Nawgu, who were banned while Prophet Edwin Okeke (Eddy Nawgu) was killed by defunct Bakassi boys,  and representation of Anambra Traditional Rulers Council at Abuja in 2016 Budget and Internally Generated Revenue (IGR),etc.
