Senator Ekwunife laments high rate of poor reading culture

By Okechukwu Onuegbu

The immediate past Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Uche Ekwunife has raised an alarm over the rate in which the youngsters, especially those from the Southeastern geopolitical zone of the country are partying in hotels and eateries rather than studying in classrooms and libraries.

Ekwunife, who raised the observation through her representative at Sir Oseloka Obaze’s books presentation in Awka, Hon. Chukwuma Ezeani, the member representing Anaocha Constituency 11at Anambra State House of Assembly, posited that merriment was the reason behind the increase in poor reading and writing culture among pupils and students.

According to Iyom, if not checkmated, the ugly trend might rob the future generation vibrant leaders and solution providers due to lost of values and norms accruing from reading and writing culture.

While commending the former Anambra State SG for finding out time to write, she urged writers and other relevant authorities to always convince pupils and students to attend book reviews, book presentations and workshops as they would contribute immensely towards reactivating proper reading and writing culture.
