Experts Proffer Solutions to Ending Nigeria’s Harsh Economy, Herdsmen-Farmers Crash

Some experts in the field of Conflict Resolution, and Psychology have enjoined the government at all levels to quickly embark on public orientation and reorientation with a view to ending the current economic crisis and restiveness threatening the unity of the country.

They equally advocated for collaborative efforts with the masses, President Muhammadu Buhari, 36 States Governors, Local Government Executives and lawmakers at all levels so as to bring to an abrupt end the issues of rampaging Fulani herdsmen amongst other destroyers of lives and properties.
Speaking to in her office, a staff of Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution, Abuja and Southeast Zonal Coordinator, National Early Warming, Mrs. Amaka Ugwu-Uzodinma, posited that conflict resolution experts should be empowered for massive sensitisation of people at nook and crannies of the country on importance of peaceful coexistence.

Uzodinma also advised governors from other states of the federation to borrow a leaf from Anambra and Enugu states, whose government, according to her, constituted series of committees to broker peace between the cattle rearers and farmers in order to prevent all form of skirmishes that might result to wanton loss of lives and properties from either of the parties.

Also speaking, Dr. Obi Nwosu, the Head of Psychology Department (HOD), Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, averred that the trending violence hatches psychological trauma in the minds of people, and could subsequently result to phobic and panic state if not checkmated.

According to Nwosu, when mistrust and fear of unknown rear ugly heads persistently, there will be counter violence from people as survival and self-defense strategies having been moved to the wall.

More-so, the University Don beckoned on the Federal government to locate and commence cognitive restructuring or education of the leaders of the Fulani Herdsmen and their workers because the country cannot exist without the presence of its constituents tribes.

On the removal of subsidy, hike in petroleum and prices of commodities and transportation, the Psychology expert urged the labour union and other interesting groups to return to negotiation table with the federal government, even as he implored the government to utilise the removed subsidy funds to addressing the issues of workers poor remunerations in consonance to the present economy, as people were dying in hunger and starvation.
