Ugwuanyi Inaugurates Economic Advisory Committee for Massive Development of Enugu

Enugu State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has inaugurated a 15-member State Economic Advisory Committee charged to ensuring the success of all the state`s economic survival strategies and development of a [post_ad] template for tackling current and future economic challenges in the state.

Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu; former Minister of Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji; Chief Chilo Offia; former aviation minister, Amb. Fidelia Njeze were among the prominent members of the advisory committee present at the Executive Council Chambers in the Government House, Enugu during the event.
The committee with Vicar-General of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu, Professor Obiora Ike as chairman, was mandated to promote balanced and sustainable economic growth and engender adequate employment for the people of the state.
The team was also asked to promote a system of fair income distribution among various income groups, attract local and foreign investments to the state and mobilise funds to increase internally generated revenue(IGR) with the establishment of industries in the state.
Governor Ugwuanyi, in a speech during the inauguration said the economic future of the state was squarely placed on the shoulders of the committee members.
He reiterated his pledge to restructure, re-engineer and reinvigorate the state economy as a matter of priority.
He added that on assumption of office, records made available to him, confirmed the gravity of economic challenges confronting the state.
He attributed the challenges to negative developments in the oil sector and consequential drop in allocation from the Federation Account and paucity of the state’s IGR.
“This informed our decision to constitute the committee and entrust it with the task of helping to reposition and reinvigorate the economy of the state,” he said.
The governor enjoined all well-meaning Enugu people both at home and in the diaspora to approach the committee with advice,information or any assistance that would help facilitate its work.
The chairman of the committee, Professor Ike, thanked the governor for finding them worthy to serve.
