Be A Good Ambassador, UNIZIK VC, Prof. Ahaneku Charges the University Alumni

The Vice- Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anmabra State, Professor Joseph Ahaneku has charged the members of the Alumni Association of the institution to be good ambassadors of the institution copiously wherever they find themselves.

Prof. Ahaneku, who spoke at the National Convention of the UNIZIK Alumni Association held at Geo-Gold Hotels Awka, the Anambra State capital yesterday, stressed that he runs an open-door-policy which is a leverage to anyone with useful [post_ad] contribution to the success of the university. 
While applauding the association for maturity exhibited in handling affairs of the association; the VC reminded them that the citadel of learning which was previously rated 136 best institution in Africa has clinched 42nd position in that regard and came 2nd most subscribed institution in Nigeria during the last JAMB and UTME conducted across the country.

He therefore expressed readiness to making NAU the first choice for students seeking admission in the country and to compete with other renowned universities in the world.
His word, “I need your cooperation as alumni of Nnamdi Azikiwe University. It might interest you to note that UNIZIK remains the only university in Africa that has Chinese Community where one can  study Chinese Language and get certified anywhere in the world”, he said.
Earlier in his address, the National President of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Alumni Association, Mr. Nwafili Okwuosa,Esq, pointed out that the previous critical state of the association, at a time was crying for a dedicated, courageous and selfless servant which propelled him to vied for the no 1 position of the association and eventually won.

 “Through my leadership style, I ensure out-of-court settlement especially with our alma matter, because litigation was almost household name for the association. I came to realized that without peace, there will be no development and progress even to the association. I met the association as the National president with seven branches but with the cooperation of his EXCOs and my leadership acumen we were able to add another two to make it nine branches. I also secure the release of freeze account of the association, and was able to kick-start the construction of the Alumni’s National Secretariat among other feats recorded.
"I therefore call on the members to embrace peace and use dialogue as a veritable instrument of dispute settlement”, he submitted, even as he implored the VC to assist the association in actualizing her constitutional provision of having her National President to occupy the seat reserved for the convocation at NAU governing council; among other needs.

Meanwhile during the convention, the alumni elected14 members National executive to pilot her affairs, among whom were Barr. Nwafili Okwuosa, returned unopposed as National President, Nweke Ebuka-VP North; Norah Nwadiogo-VP East; Ankiebonam Chinyere Stella-VP West; Nwankwo Cyprian-National Secretary, Nwangwu Christian-Treasurer, Ejiofor Umegbogu-National Public Relation Officer, etc. 
Speaking in a closing remarks, the first National President and Chairman electoral Committee of Unizik Alumni, Ogbuefi James Unoka advised the new elected National Executive to keep the flag flying, noting that the election into various offices was a call to serve selflessly.
