Architects Partners Governor Obiano to Develop Anambra Cities

The Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA), Anambra State chapter has pledged to partner with the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano on his resolve to transform Anambra State to Dubai.

Speaking at the NIA 2015 annual conference held yesterday at Emmaus House, Awka, Arc. Peter Okpala, the State Chapter Chairman, says they would assist in the areas of project monitoring and supervision to ensuring optimum service delivery.

According to Arc Okpala, the theme of the conference “Developing An Effective Urban Master Plan for Awka Capital Territory” was carefully chosen as their major contribution to infrastructural development in the state, because the professional body was poised to articulate ideas from several sources for the purpose of designing a befitting Awka capital territory, which is entrusted to the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA).

He further commended the Governor on his keen interest to develop Awka, the state capital after what he termed “reckless subdivision and sale of lands by individuals and government agencies in the state capital tends to tilt the town towards urban slums.”

The state NIA boss, however, disclosed that Obiano’s intervention began in 2014 while he setup Collapse Building Panel after a total of 10 buildings collapsed between June to September, 2014 which finally saw an end to the incidence.

“The members of the NIA Anambra State are very desirous of working to improve our environment. We see the setting up of  ACTDA as a wonderful opportunity to create a world class city in our state and also as a platform for us to achieve our long desire to create a decent environment for our people… Therefore, we hereby enjoined the governor to extend the work of ACTDA to cover Onitsha and Nnewi”.

Speaking in an interview, the Cfficer, Awka Capital Development Authority, Arc Michael Okonkwo advised both the indigenes and residents of Awka and its environs to key into the projects by abiding to the rules and guidelines, as it encompasses all aspects of life and environment.
Also, Arc Okonwko, who empharised the needs for builders to always submit master plan to the agency, equally encouraged them to often usetilise professionals as that would assist immensely to containing the quacks, avoid illegality and building collapse, and in furtherance entrench millennium development.
