MEMBER-ELECT of the House of Representatives representing Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South federal constituency of Enugu State, Mr Pat Asadu, has described, as smear campaign, insinuation that he was on the run from the police over a case of alleged forgery of election result sheet.

A warrant of arrest was said to have been issued against the member who has just been returned to the National Assembly for the third time, over his alleged evasion of arrest to answer questions concerning alleged forgery during the conduct of the last Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary election in his constituency.
But in a statement made available to Sunday Tribune in Abuja at the weekend, Asadu described suggestions linking to his arrest as the handiwork of his opponents who could not stomach their loss in the primary election.
He wondered how he could have forged a result sheet in which he was declared winner of the election after the exercise as confirmed by the PDP Election Appeal Panel set up by its national headquarters as well as the High Court in Abuja.
Asadu said: “An indisputable fact was that Justice G.O. Kolawole of the Federal High Court, Abuja on April 1, 2015, delivered a landmark judgment which clearly recognised me as the authentic and duly-nominated candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and by implication the winner of the House of Representatives seat for Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South federal constituency in the 2015 general election.
“Consequently, I had since received my Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and awaiting inauguration.”
The lawmaker observed that one of the aspirants, in the exercise of his constitutional rights, proceeded to the Court of Appeal to challenge the verdict of the Federal High Court, noting however that the High Court had declared that the petitioner’s result sheet was “a document of doubtful integrity if not outright forgery, deliberately made up to meet the yearnings of the 1st and 2nd Defendants to refuse to accept the result of the primary election.”
